Gippsland Poised to Lead Australia’s Offshore Wind
Gippsland Offshore Wind Alliance – a partnership between Committee for Gippsland, the Gippsland Climate Change Network and strategic partners released the Gippsland Offshore Wind Sector Plan.
We were joined by Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh MP and Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Cindy Madeley and a supportive gathering of industry stakeholders in Sale on the 29th April 2026 for the official launch of the Sector Plan.
It was an important step in highlighting the local opportunity for offshore wind in Gippsland but also the support and need for the new jobs and energy generation it can bring.
The Sector Plan outlines how Gippsland can lead Australia’s offshore wind industry in a way that is coordinated, provides confidence, and delivers real commitment to local industry and communities.
Gippsland brings decades of experience as a power‑generating region, established infrastructure, a highly capable workforce, and strong industry and community interest.
What matters now is turning that advantage into delivery: aligning policy, infrastructure, workforce planning and community engagement so offshore wind development can proceed with confidence and certainty.
The Sector Plan provides a practical framework to do exactly that, helping ensure offshore wind delivers lasting economic, environmental and community benefits for Gippsland.
The work continues with government, industry and community stakeholders to translate this opportunity into an industry that supports the jobs and energy generation Gippsland needs.
