Christo van Niekerk joined AGL in 2021 as the General Manager at Loy Yang and brings to the organisation more than 34 years of experience in the Electricity Generation industry, 31 of which  was spent working in various areas of South Africa’s State Electricity Utility Eskom.

Christo began his career as an Engineer in training at Eskom in 1987. Since then, he has held various leadership roles throughout his career, including Power Station Manager and Senior General Manager responsible for a portfolio of  power stations in Eskom until 2018.

Until recently Christo was involved in setting up an Operations and Management (O&M) organisation at a new coal fired power plant in the Philippines. His role in developing O&M processes and procedures was critical in managing the successful start-up and ongoing asset management and maintenance of the new plant.

Christo has University qualifications in Industrial Engineering as well as a Masters in Business Administration and Bachelor degrees in Law.
