Pathways to Partnership: Insights from Traditional Owners
Pathways to Partnership: Gunaikurnai and Major Projects Launched!
During the first session of GNEC24 Daniel Miller, CEO, Gunaikurnai Land and Water Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) shared how a traditional owner group in Gippsland is collaborating with state government and industry to foster meaningful partnerships for mutual benefit and respect. Hon Minister Lily D’Ambrosio and Paul Johnson Senior Manager, Regional Engagement, Southerly Ten, joined the discussion on how relationships with GLaWAC have developed.
Daniel shared the new strategic document that will lead us a new journey and a new era of partnership and inclusion on Gunaikurnai Country with the launch of “Pathways to Partnerships: Gunaikurnai and Major Projects” .
“Sure, we get that you think a strategy is often a bunch of good intentions sitting in the bottom drawer, but not this time!”
“Truth is that in the past our community has been excluded from energy and other major projects that have been developed on Country.”
“What we’re interested in is a transition from exclusion to collaboration, a pathway that integrates our mob into project planning right from the start.”
Pathways to Partnerships identifies the steps for project proponents to take to work with GLaWAC – start with showing respect, develop trust, agree on shared values of protecting Country and cultural heritage, develop partnerships, and finally, deliver best-practice agreements to lock in the positive outcomes for everyone involved.
Join GLaWAC in celebrating this transformative shift towards true partnership and reconciliation. Join them in creating a sustainable future for all.
